Phyllis’s quit story
At 16, Phyllis started going dancing with friends, where smoking was seen as the ‘cool’ thing to do. With smoking also prevalent at home, it wasn’t long before she became addicted, finding it increasingly difficult to avoid smoking.
Phyllis had made several attempts to quit smoking but struggled to break the cycle. However, when she became pregnant with her first child, the desire to protect her baby gave her the motivation she needed to quit.
“It doesn’t help your mental health in any way. You think it helps but it doesn’t.”
Following a battle with postnatal depression, Phyllis returned to smoking as a way to cope with her mental health. She believed it eased her anxiety and stress, fearing she wouldn’t be able to manage without cigarettes.
Phyllis sought help and was able to quit smoking for good. The positive effects have touched every aspect of her life, and she has never looked back.
“I do feel a lot better in myself. In everything. My approach to life. My positivity.”
Phyllis now embraces the improved quality of life that quitting smoking has brought her. She continues to share the benefits of quitting with others, encouraging them to try stopping smoking for good too.
